Bike Path Through Camp Pendleton Closed Three Days
SAN DIEGO – The bike path along Old Highway 101 through Camp Pendleton will be closed during daylight hours Monday through Wednesday due to military operations in the area. There is a possibility that the bike path could also be closed next Thursday.
The closures will extend from Las Pulgas Road to the fence line at the southern boundary of San Onofre State Beach, according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
Bicycles will be permitted on the outside shoulders along Interstate 5 between Las Pulgas Road and Basilone Road during the closures. Cyclists must exit at all off-ramps to avoid the possibility of conflict with vehicle traffic.
Northbound cyclists must exit at the weigh station and then re-enter the freeway shoulder. Southbound cyclists must exit at the weigh station and at the vista point and then re-enter the freeway shoulder.
Detour signs will be placed as well as signs advising that cyclists must exit at all off-ramp locations along the freeway shoulder route.
Motorists are reminded to drive alertly, watch for cyclists and share the road. Highway safety is a shared responsibility. Do your part to keep everyone safe.
