SR-163 and I-5 Off-ramps and Connectors Closed Sunday Morning

SAN DIEGO – SAN DIEGO – The connector ramps from northbound and southbound State Route 163 (SR-163) to northbound Interstate 5 (I-5) will be closed Sunday morning from 4 until 11 for maintenance.

According to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), the Brant Street/Hawthorne Street off-ramp from northbound I-5 and the Fourth Avenue off-ramp from southbound SR-163 will also be closed. The Brant Street/Hawthorn Street off-ramp will reopen at 9 a.m. and the Fourth Avenue off-ramp will reopen at 11 a.m.

Motorists on southbound SR-163 will be detoured to southbound I-5 and exit at Imperial Avenue/17th Street, turn right on B Street, left on 16th Street, left on C Street to cross under the freeway and left on 19th Street to northbound I-5.

Motorists heading to the San Diego International Airport between 4 and 9 a.m. can take the Sassafras Street off-ramp from northbound I-5, turn left on Sassafras, left on Kettner Boulevard, right on West Laurel Street and right on Harbor Drive to the airport.

The detour from northbound SR-163 is to continue northbound on SR-163 and take westbound Interstate 8 to northbound I-5 — or southbound I-5 for downtown San Diego and the San Diego International Airport.

Drivers are reminded to slow and safely move over a lane when highway workers are present. Help protect lives in the Cone Zone.
