Ramp Work on I-5 in the South Bay Nears Completion
SAN DIEGO – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will be working nightly Monday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. on several on- and off-ramps on Interstate 5 (I-5) in the South Bay area next week.
Ramps in both the northbound and southbound direction are subject to closure between Camino De la Plaza in the community of San Ysidro and 24th Street in National City.
Construction crews have requested the closure of all of the connector ramps from northbound and southbound I-5 to and from eastbound and westbound State Route 905. However, crews will only close one or two ramps at a time.
Night work also includes the closure of the northbound I-5 to eastbound State Route 54 (SR-54) and westbound SR-54 to northbound I-5 connector ramps.
There is also potential for any two consecutive on- and off-ramps to be closed on northbound and southbound I-5 between E Street and Palomar Street.
This work may be noisy at times but is needed to smooth and extend the life of the pavement. Work is expected to be complete in early August.
Working on the highway is one of the most dangerous jobs in America. Move Over for highway workers. It’s the law.
