Extended Northbound I-15 Ramp Closures in Escondido Begin Friday
SAN DIEGO – Extended ramp closures in Escondido will begin this Friday in two locations, according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). The northbound Interstate 15 (I-15) on-ramp from 9th Avenue will be closed for nine days beginning on Friday, April 9 at 9 p.m. This on-ramp will reopen to traffic on Monday, April 19 at 5 a.m. The northbound off-ramp to Valley Parkway will also be closed over the next two weekends. This off-ramp will first be closed on Friday, April 9 at 9 p.m and will reopen to traffic on Monday, April 12 at 5 a.m. The off-ramp will be closed again on Friday, April 16 at 9 p.m. and will reopen to traffic on Monday, April 19 at 5 a.m.
For the northbound 9th Avenue on-ramp closure, there are two advised detours. To limit the impacts and congestion on city streets, motorists are encouraged to detour west on 9th Avenue to southbound I-15 to east on Citracado Parkway, back onto the northbound I-15 on-ramp. Another detour is available to motorists by traveling west on 9th Avenue as it turns into Auto Park Way, then turn right on Valley Parkway to access the northbound I-15 on-ramp. Detour signs will be in place to direct motorists.
For the northbound Valley Parkway off-ramp closure, there is one advised detour. Motorists will be detoured at the 9th Avenue off-ramp and travel east to either La Terraza or Centre City Parkway, then travel north on either street to reach Valley Parkway. Detour signs will be in place to direct motorists.
These extended northbound ramp closures are the first of four stages in a series of closures over the next two months that will impact traffic in Escondido. These closures are needed to finish paving work on the outside portions of I-15. Once the outside portions of I-15 are completed this summer, traffic will be shifted onto the newly paved lanes and construction will begin on the new Express Lanes in the median of I-15. Traffic is expected to flow better once construction switches to the median.
Stay informed during these closures by going online to www.KeepSanDiegoMoving.com for more information and detailed detour instructions. Planning alternate routes during these months may also help save you time and avoid frustration. If you do travel in the area, follow detour signs and expect short delays.
