Delays Expected for Holiday Bowl Traffic
SAN DIEGO – Motorists should expect delays on all roads leading to Qualcomm Stadium this Thursday afternoon for the near sellout of the annual Holiday Bowl.
California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) Transportation Management Center Chief Everett Townsend said motorist should give themselves plenty of time when traveling to the game or nearby shopping centers. "Daily commuters combined with holiday shoppers and possible wet weather may add extra travel time for fans trying to make the Holiday Bowl kickoff at 7 p.m.," he said.
Caltrans has worked closely with the Holiday Bowl Committee in trying to accommodate the expected high volume of traffic on Interstate 15 and I-8, but it also needs the motoring public's help in planning their trips accordingly. Electronic message signs on the freeways near the stadium will assist motorists through the area in Mission Valley. Motorists traveling north may avoid the area by taking State Route 163 to I-15.
Before leaving home/work motorists may check for areas of traffic congestion at www.dot.ca.gov/dist11 and click on the link to the San Diego Real-Time Traffic Map. For additional information please contact the Caltrans Public Information Office, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at 619-688-6670.
