Interstate 15 Closed Saturday Night at Rancho Peñasquitos Boulevard/Poway Road

SAN DIEGO – Southbound and northbound Interstate 15 (I-15) will be closed Saturday night and detours will be in place at the Poway Road/Rancho Peñasquitos Boulevard bridge, according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). The closure will be in place from 11 on Saturday night to 7 on Sunday morning. The I-15 Express Lanes from SR-56 to State Route 163 (SR-163) will also be closed during this time and motorists directed to use the I-15 general purpose lanes.

Motorists traveling north on I-15 will be detoured east on Poway Road to north on Sabre Springs Parkway to west on Ted Williams Parkway onto northbound I-15. Motorists traveling south on I-15 will be detoured west on State Route 56 (SR-56) to east on Rancho Peñasquitos Boulevard to southbound I-15.

Concurrently, the eastbound and westbound SR-56 connectors to southbound I-15 will be closed. Motorists traveling on SR-56 to southbound I-15 will be detoured via Rancho Peñasquitos Boulevard onto southbound I-15.

The Poway Road/Rancho Peñasquitos Boulevard bridge over I-15 will also be closed at 10 that evening and will reopen by 9 the next morning. Motorists traveling west on Poway Road will be detoured north on I-15 to west on SR-56 onto eastbound Rancho Peñasquitos Boulevard or westbound Carmel Mountain Road. Motorists traveling east on Rancho Peñasquitos Boulevard will be detoured south on I-15 to east on Mercy Road to north on I-15 onto eastbound Poway Road. Detour signs will be in place to direct motorists.

These closures will allow construction crews to demolish the south side of the bridge as part of the I-15 Express Lanes Project. This bridge demolition work will be noisy but it has to be done at night to avoid disrupting daytime traffic.
