197/199 Safe STAA Access
This project proposes improvements to Routes 197 and 199 in Del Norte County to allow larger, industry standard-sized trucks
access to the North Coast from the east.
3rd and R Street Median Project
This project proposes to install raised median islands on R Street (Route 255) near the intersection of
3rd Street.
Alton Interchange
This project proposes to construct an interchange at the junction of Routes 36 and 101.
Carlotta Shoulder Widening
This project proposes to widen the paved shoulders on Route 36 within the unincorporated community of Carlotta.
Confusion Hill Realignment
This project is relocating approximately 1.5 miles of the existing highway, to the west via two
bridges, in order to avoid the massive slide area.
Elk Tieback Wall
This project proposes to replace a deteriorating log crib wall with a tieback retaining wall on Route 1 about 2 miles south of the Navarro River.
Eureka - Arcata Corridor Improvement
This project proposes to make improvements to Route 101 from the Eureka Slough bridges in Eureka
to the 11th Street Overcrossing in Arcata.
Fort Bragg Safety Improvements
This project proposes to rehabilitate a 2.1 mile section of Route 20 and provide safety improvements.
Greenwood Creek Bridge Replacement
This project proposes to replace the existing Greenwood Creek Bridge just south of Elk.
Hopland Bypass
The Hopland Bypass Project was initiated to address existing and anticipated traffic
congestion, on Route 101, in and near the Hopland area. Caltrans is currently examining alternatives and conducting
formal environmental studies to identify and analyze potential impacts.
Lake 29 Improvement
This project proposes to widen an eight-mile segment of State Route 29 in Lake County to a four-lane
expressway with access control. This project is located between the communities of Lower Lake and Kelseyville.
Last Chance Grade Road Stabilization
This project proposes to stabilize the portion of Route 101 known as Last Chance Grade.
Mad River Bridges Replacement
This project proposes to replace the northbound and southbound bridges crossing the Mad River on Route 101 between
Arcata and McKinleyville.
Redcrest Storm Damage Restoration
This project proposes to repair of the northbound lanes of Route 101, which were lost in a slip-out during a winter storm in February, 2006.
Richardson Grove Improvement Project
Caltrans proposes to adjust the roadway alignment of Route 101 through Richardson Grove State Park.
This project will allow access by industry standard-sized trucks conforming to the Surface Transportation Assistance Act
(STAA), which are currently prohibited north of Leggett.
Route 53 Intersection Improvement
This project proposes to perform various safety improvements at the intersection of Route 53 and 40th Steet/Lakeshore Avenue.
Route 53 Rehabilitation
This project proposes to install or extend turn pocket lanes, widen the shoulders, replace sections of
guardrail, add shoulder backing and rumble strips, upgrade intersection lighting, extend and rehabilitate
culverts, improve the stormwater drainage system, and repave the surface of the roadway over a 4.5 mile section of Route 53.
Route 199 Rock Outcropping Removal
This project proposes to remove rock outcroppings at various locations within a 0.3-mile segment to achieve a two
to three-foot increase in roadway width.
Smith River Left-turn Channelization Safety
This project proposes to construct left-turn lanes and widen the shoulder of Route 101 north of Smith River.
Ten Mile River Bridge
This project will replace the current bridge with a new structure designed to be able to withstand
a maximum credible earthquake while providing a safe and reliable crossing over the Ten Mile River.
Union Landing Viaduct Storm Damage Permanent Restoration
This project proposes a permanent restoration of a section of Route 1 damaged by the winter storms of 2005 and 2006.
Willits Bypass
This project proposes to construct a new segment of Route 101 that will bypass the City of Willits to
relieve congestion, reduce delays, and improve safety.
