Alton Interchange - Introduction

Description here.

Caltrans, the Humboldt County Association of Governments, and the Federal Highway Administration propose to construct an interchange at the intersection of Routes 101 and 36. In addition, local roads on the west side of Route 101 will be extended in order to eliminate several road approaches. The purpose of this project is to increase safety and improve the flow of traffic. This project is located between the communities of Fortuna, Rio Dell, and Hydesville.

The interchange will be a "spread diamond" design (See Photos). The median barrier on Route 101 which currently extends south to Drake Hill Road will be extended to just north of the Van Duzen Bridge. The estimated project cost is $27 million.
