Regional Planning

Regional Planning coordinates District transportation planning activities with the Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), Regional Transportation Planning Agencies (RTPAs), transit operators, local agencies, and other District divisions. Staff supports and reviews Regional Transportation Plans (RTPs) and Improvement Programs, Overall Work Programs (OWPs) and transit/rail studies; administers Federal and State funds for the MPOs/RTPAs; and acts as liaison for various multi-modal Headquarters planning programs.

As a Caltrans representative, Regional Planning participates in numerous planning and technical committees. These include the MPO/RTPA Technical Transportation Advisory Committee (TTAC), Citizens Transportation Advisory Committees (CTAC), Regional Transit Advisory Committee (RTAC) Project Development Teams, Bicycle and Pedestrian Committees, County Planning Commissions, Coast Rail Coordinating Council and Airport Land Use Commissions.

The Regional Planner acts as District liaison with all Headquarters Transportation Planning Programs as necessary to carry out planning activities.
