State Route 22 Eastbound Improvement Project

This safety project proposes improvements on State Route 22 (SR-22) (Garden Grove Freeway) in the Eastbound (EB) direction from east of Garden Grove Ave (PM R9.2) to Devon Rd (PM R10.8), in the Cities of Garden Grove, Orange and Santa Ana. The project will convert a collector-distributer (C-D) road to a freeway to freeway direct connector servicing I-5 SB. It will also create a new freeway to freeway connector from SR‐22 EB to I‐5/SR‐57 NB (Horseshoe) by restripe and widened the Horseshoe connector to add one (1) additional lane. Access to SR-22 EB from the EB Bristol St on ramp is eliminated to accommodate the I-5/SR-57 NB connector. Other work includes installation of new traffic control devices and upgrades to the existing traffic control devices. The existing high‐occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane with continuous access is maintained. A new changeable message sign (CMS) is installed along SR-22 EB, just east of the Beach Blvd. on ramp.
