State Route 1 (Pacific Coast Highway/PCH) Old Newport Boulevard Intersection Improvement Project
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), the lead agency pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) on this Project, in cooperation with the City of Newport Beach, proposes improvements to State Route (SR) 1 (known locally as Pacific Coast Highway [PCH] or West Coast Highway) and Old Newport Boulevard. The Project would provide a dedicated right-turn lane on SR-1 onto Old Newport Boulevard, a third through lane from approximately 430 feet east of the Old Newport Boulevard intersection to 100 feet west of the intersection, as well as a pedestrian crosswalk and bicycle lane within the Project limits. The purpose of the Project is to improve traffic operations; to improve circulation and pedestrian movement; to alleviate vehicle queuing; and to reduce congestion.
