Interstate 8 Traffic Switch Between Olgilby Road and State Route 186

EL CENTRO, Calif——Traffic switches on Interstate 8 (I-8) are scheduled on Segment 5 for approximately seven miles from just west of the Ogilby Road overcrossing to west of Algodones Road/State Route 186. Starting Thursday December 21, 2017, westbound traffic was reduced to a single lane and switched to the westbound lanes.  On Friday, January 5, 2018, eastbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane and switched to the westbound lanes.  Both travel directions will be divided by k-rail on the I-8 westbound lanes and will be in place for approximately four months.

The westbound on- and off-ramps at Ogilby Road (Exit 159) remain closed to traffic. Signs are in place to alert motorists to the ramp closures and alternate routes.

  • Detour Ogilby Road to Westbound I-8: Motorists may access eastbound I-8 from Ogilby Road and exit Sidewinder Road to access westbound I-8.
  • Detour Westbound I-8 to Ogilby Road: Motorists may proceed westbound I-8 past Ogilby Road and exit at Grays Well Road and access eastbound I-8 to Ogilby Road.

In addition, a five-mile section of I-8 from about one-half mile west of State Route 111 to one-half mile east of Barbara Worth Drive continues to be reduced to one lane in each direction for Segment 4 work.
Traffic impacts include a reduced speed limit through the construction area and possible travel delays.  Caltrans reminds motorists to slow down when driving through highway work zones. Motorists are reminded to watch for highway workers and moving construction equipment in the project area.
