Southbound I-5 and I-805 South of SR-905 Closed 57 Hours Beginning Saturday
SAN DIEGO——CAll southbound lanes on Interstate 5 (I-5) and Interstate 805 (I-805) south of State Route 905 (SR-905) will be closed Saturday at 3 a.m. through Monday noon, according to Caltrans. The 57-hour closures are needed to accommodate work at the San Ysidro Port of Entry (POE) for the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) 5 Realign Project.
Detour signs will be posted directing southbound motorists to eastbound SR-905. Access to businesses and residents will be available via local roads.
During the closures, there will be no southbound vehicular access into Mexico through the San Ysidro POE. Motorists may cross the U.S.-Mexico border at the Otay Mesa Land Port of Entry by way of eastbound SR-905.
At the San Ysidro POE, cross-border access will be available for northbound vehicles as well as northbound and southbound pedestrians.
Traffic congestion and delays on SR-905 and Otay Mesa are expected. Travelers should plan for longer than usual wait times at both ports and are advised to avoid the area if possible.
Caltrans Maintenance crews will take advantage of the freeway closures to repair culverts, replace faded signs and remove weeds.
