Night Work Closes I-8 Off-ramp to Lake Jennings Park Road
SAN DIEGO—Construction crews will close the eastbound and westbound Interstate 8 (I-8) off-ramps to Lake Jennings Park Road in El Cajon tonight, Thursday and Monday from 7 p.m.–5 a.m., according to Caltrans. The closures are part of the ongoing I-8 Pavement Rehabilitation Project.
Nearby residents and businesses can expect to hear nighttime construction noise involving saw cutting old pavement, base compacting and heavy equipment operation. Crews will work to minimize construction noise and lighting impacts.
Construction activities are scheduled at night when traffic volumes are lower in order to minimize the impact on motorists and for the safety of highway workers.
Additional nighttime closures are scheduled 7 p.m.-5 a.m. on I-8 off-ramps as follows:
- Los Coches Road: Tuesday, May 16 and Thursday, May 18
- Greenfield Drive: Monday – Thursday, May 22-25
- 2nd Street: Thursday, May 25 and Tuesday-Wednesday, May 30-31
The I-8 Pavement Rehabilitation Project is a comprehensive maintenance project that will upgrade I-8 lanes and on- and off-ramps from Johnson Avenue to Lake Jennings Park Road in El Cajon. Improvements include replacing damaged concrete panels on the freeway, repairing and upgrading guardrail, upgrading gore areas and constructing pedestrian curb ramps to Americans with Disabilities Act standards. Construction began in January and is expected to be completed in fall.
Motorists are reminded to Be Work Zone Alert and to move over a lane or slow when workers are present with flashing amber lights.
