Reminder; NB SR-242 Concord Full Two Weekends of Closures Start 7-9-21

Project Overview:

Caltrans Bay Area will replace 3,500 linear feet of concrete paving in both lanes #2 and #3 of northbound State Route (SR-242) in Concord.

This project includes funding from Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. SB 1 provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1. For more information about other transportation projects funded by SB 1, visit www.rebuildingca.ca.gov.

Scope of Work:

The northbound roadway section of SR-242 will be replaced after years of regular high traffic use.

Northbound SR-242 Weekend Closures:

For public and worker safety, Caltrans has scheduled two weekends of full highway closures on northbound SR-242 in Concord.
The closures are scheduled on northbound SR-242 between the SR-242/I-680 separation and the Concord Avenue on-ramps in Concord.

The work will occur over two consecutive weekends: Friday, July 9 – Monday, July 12, and Friday, July 16 – Monday, July 19 starting at 10:00 PM each Friday night until the following Monday at 10:00 AM.

During the closure of northbound SR-242, the primary detour to easterly destinations (Pittsburg, Antioch) will be northbound I-680 to the connector with eastbound SR-4.

Local traffic for Clayton Rd and business districts may choose one of many alternate routes including Monument Blvd, Willow Pass Rd, and Concord Ave.

Delays are expected on northbound I-680 during the daytime on Saturday and Sunday. There will also be delays on local streets and off-ramps in the vicinity of the work. (Monument Blvd, Willow Pass Rd, and Concord Ave)

Driver Benefits:

The project will install reinforced concrete paving which will extend the roadway life and help minimize noise and future maintenance in the area.

Project Timeline:

Construction work is scheduled the weekend of Friday, July 9, 2021, until Monday, July 12, 2021, and the weekend of Friday, July 16, 2021, until Monday July 19, 2021. Closures are tentatively scheduled each Friday starting at 10:00 PM and reopening the following Monday at 10:00AM.
