Sacramento County – Caltrans is alerting northbound and southbound motorists about overnight lane restrictions on State Highway 99 south of Elk Grove from Sunday through Thursday.

Motorists should expect travel delays from heavy equipment and commercial trucking entering and exiting the work zone.

To ensure safety for motorists and trucking operations one lane will be restricted for each direction at the work zone.

Overnight lane restrictions are scheduled through September 2019:

• Northbound and Southbound State Highway 99

Lane restrictions from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday and 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday

Landscaping work to clear out areas underneath the freeway will require dirt to be hauled in and out of the work zone for foundational support and for pile work later this month. Structure construction work for this project officially begins next year.

The work is part of the $158 million State Highway 99 project to replace the Cosumnes River bridges and the Cosumnes River Overflow bridges with two new bridge structures.

The current structures are in need of replacement due to age, wear and outdated design to improve overall mobility and safety through this corridor.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work.
