Caltrans Completes Recovery Act Congestion Relief Project on Interstate 805

San Diego – Caltrans joined elected representatives and local transportation officials today to celebrate the completion of the first American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act) project to be completed in the San Diego region. The $14 million Interstate 805 Southbound Auxiliary Lanes Project was primarily funded ($9 million) by the Recovery Act. "The new auxiliary lanes will bring much needed congestion relief to 130,000 motorists that travel this freeway daily and make it easier and safer for them to enter and exit the freeway," said Caltrans Director Cindy McKim. New southbound auxiliary lanes were constructed on I-805 between State Route 54 and Bonita Road. The Bonita Road undercrossing was widened and new ramp meters were installed at Sweetwater Road, Bonita Road, and the connector from westbound SR-54 to southbound I-805. California has obligated nearly $2.6 billion in Recovery Act funding to nearly 1,000 highway, local street, and job training transportation projects statewide.
